We are thrilled to celebrate Lisa Cholmondeley, a proud member of DCNOMA, for being elevated to the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects (FAIA)—the AIA’s highest honor. This well-deserved recognition not only reflects her extraordinary professional contributions but also her unwavering commitment to equity, research, and transformative leadership within the field of architecture.
Lisa’s elevation to the 2025 AIA Class of Fellows under Object Two—advancing the science and art of planning and building by elevating the standards of practice—cements her as a visionary who is shaping the future of our profession. With less than 3% of AIA members ever achieving this distinction, Lisa joins an elite cohort of architects whose careers demonstrate lasting impact, innovation, and service to society.
As the Director of Gensler’s Center for Research on Equity and the Built Environment, Lisa leads the charge in reimagining what inclusive design means in real, measurable terms. Her work transcends disciplines and borders—fostering inclusive practices, engaging complex global teams, and championing equity in all facets of design. Her leadership has been a catalyst for change, ensuring that architecture is not just about creating beautiful spaces, but spaces that reflect the diverse identities, needs, and stories of the people who inhabit them.
Lisa’s journey has taken her across the globe—from Gensler offices in London, Doha, Abu Dhabi, and San Francisco to her current home in Washington, D.C. Along the way, she has contributed to large-scale, high-impact projects that merge technical excellence with cultural sensitivity. Her unique ability to bridge architecture and interiors has redefined how we think about the relationship between form and function, between exterior and interior, between place and people.
A passionate educator, Lisa has also taught architectural design at Howard University and the University of Tennessee, inspiring and mentoring the next generation of architects. Within Gensler, she continues to elevate voices as a member of the Global Inclusion Committee, where she champions representation, access, and belonging throughout the firm’s worldwide practice.
As a dedicated DCNOMA member, Lisa has exemplified what it means to lead with purpose and authenticity. Her elevation to Fellowship is not just a personal achievement—it’s a collective celebration for our entire community. Her career embodies the very spirit of NOMA: designing with intent, building with care, and advocating for a profession that serves everyone.
Please join us in congratulating Lisa Cholmondeley, FAIA, for this monumental and richly deserved recognition. We are so proud to honor her leadership, celebrate her impact, and continue to learn from her example. Lisa, your work uplifts us all—and your journey inspires us to keep pushing forward.
Congratulations, Lisa!
